Dear Students,
The Navajo Nation Bar Exam (NNBA) is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Navajo Technical University in Crownpoint, New Mexico. If you plan to take the exam, please review and complete the NNBA Application Packet by Tuesday, June 24 2025. Late applications will not be accepted.
📝 Eligibility Requirements:
To sit for the NNBA Bar Examination, applicants must meet the following general criteria:
- Age: Be at least 21 years old at the time of application.
- Application: Submit a complete and current application for membership in the NNBA.
- Character: Demonstrate good moral character and fitness to practice law on the Navajo Nation.
- Criminal History: Have no felony convictions or misdemeanors involving moral turpitude in any jurisdiction.
- Disciplinary History: Not have been disbarred by any court or bar association for reasons related to criminal activity, ethical violations, malpractice, or other issues concerning personal integrity, unless the disbarment has been lifted by the original authority.
Additional Qualifications Based on Tribal Enrollment:
- For Non-Enrolled Individuals:
- Must be a member in good standing of the bar of any U.S. state or have applied to take such a bar exam.
- Must be a graduate of an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school.
- For Enrolled Members of Federally Recognized Indian Tribes:
- Must be an enrolled member of a federally recognized Indian tribe in the United States.
- Must have completed one of the following:
- Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year institution (Bachelor’s Degree).
- Completion of a paralegal training program, advocacy program, apprenticeship program, or equivalent certified by the NNBA Training Committee.
- Note: Non-law school graduate applicants under this category must have taken the NNBA Bar Review course at least once within two years prior to taking the NNBA Bar Examination.

Your application must include:
- Completed Application Form: Ensure all sections are filled out and the form is signed and dated.
- Application Fee:
- $300 for first-time applicants.
- $200 for repeat applicants.
- Payment should be made via check or money order payable to: Navajo Nation Bar Association, Inc.
- Required Documentation:
- For Law School Graduates: A law school transcript (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
- For Licensed Attorneys: A letter of good standing from your licensing authority.
- For Current Law Students: A letter from your law school verifying your expected graduation date (if applicable).
- For Non-Law School Graduates: Proof of completion of the relevant program and evidence of having taken the NNBA Bar Review course within the past two years.
