Costume Ideas

With Halloween looming around the corner many law students are finally raising their heads from their books to see the light.  Once you shake off the study fog you have to decide what you will be for Halloween.  Since you have so much crammed in side your head right now we decided to pick our favorites and give you a few tips on how to achieve these looks quickly!

Supreme Court Justice Billings Learned Hand

After completing a month of law school we all know who this is!  This is the man who actually made a mathematical formula out of a balancing analysis!  Justice Learned Hand is often called one of the United States most significant judicial philosophers.  He was a proponent of judicial restraint and was known for his deep philosophical view of the interpretation of law.

For this costume you will need:

  • Fuzzy Eyebrows
  • Wire Frame Glasses
  • A Brown or Black Suit
  • A Thin Black Tie
  • A Gavel
  • Maintain a Straight Face At All Times!

Sherwood v. Walker

If you want something a bit more playful and fun you could always go as Rose the Cow from the famous 1L case that continues to plague law students; or am I mistaken?  If you don’t particularly want to be a Cow for Halloween how about embracing the confusion and going as a large question mark!

Hadley v. Baxendale

I hate it when Amazon doesn’t deliver my packages on time!  This must have been how Hadley felt!  If you have ordered a costume and it hasn’t been delivered yet (or on time) you could always dig through the clothing you already have and go as either Hadley or Baxendale!

For the Hadley Costume:

  • Pilgrim Style Hat
  • Plain Brown/Pilgrim Jacket
  • Old School Penny Shoes
  • Sack full of flour

For the Baxendale Costume:

  • Brown Shirt
  • Brown Paints
  • Box with Pickford & Co’ written on it

Krell v. Henry

Perhaps you are going to be spending Halloween with someone else (this person would more likely than not need to be another law student) and you want to go as the same theory?  You could dress from the ever favorite: Krell v. Henry.  You could find yourself some fancy 1900’s garb and go as Mr. Henry; excitedly awaiting the Kings Coronation.  Your partner could go as Krell, same 1900’s garb, but you could argue all night!  If you happen to be in a joint enterprise on Halloween with a non-law school person, then you could let them go as a normie character; the King.  Don’t try to explain, your non-law school friend wont understand and all you will do is drive them crazy!  Just let them find a fancy costume and be prepared to demand your money back all evening!

For this costume all you will need is:

  • A Top Hat
  • Fancy Jacket
  • Monocle
  • Riding Pants

Favorite Law School Professors

Everyone attends a different online law school and every school has its “Law God”.  The ever famous saying is “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!”  Log in to your school, pull up an archived video, and go for the gold.  For this costume there are many professors to choose from!  We could almost start a Team Edward Team Jacob disagreement!  Let us know in the comment; Team Bracci or Team Fleming!  We think they are both great!
